Wiggle Room accredited by violence prevention program

Certificate from Order an Angelot

Accredited by the Order an Angelot sexual violence prevention program, Wiggle Room aims to combat sexual assault, often targeting women and LGBTQ+ individuals at venues. Our staff and associates completed training to earn this certification, underscoring our dedication to safety.

The Order an Angelot protocol enhances our Safer Dance Space initiative by empowering individuals to seek assistance without hesitation. Inspired by successful international campaigns like Angel Shots and Ask for Angela, this program underscores our dedication to your well-being.

Sexual violence encompasses unwanted touching, groping, drink spiking, or harassment—all can be considered sexual assault under Canadian law. Consent must be clear, voluntary, and ongoing throughout any interaction. Coercion, manipulation, or any incapacity nullify consent. The video Tea Consent explains the importance of consent in a fun way.

Since our establishment in 2021, safety has been paramount at Wiggle Room. We employ a simple yet effective safety procedures initiated by the code ‘BANANA.’ It alerts staff to any concerns regarding safety or experiences of sexual violence. Our team will promptly assist the patron in a safe space, provides resources from the Toronto Rape Crisis Center and police, and ensures their well-being before departure.

A safe environment is a collective effort. We urge patrons to stay vigilant, intervene, and support one another. All our staff, including management, bartenders, servers, and security personnel, hold Smart Serve certificates and actively monitor patrons’ well-being.

We handle reports of past violence outside our events with sensitivity and follow established protocols.

We welcome your feedback.

Together Against Sexual Violence
During your interaction with the person seeking help: • Believe the person. • Be there to listen to them. • Focus on the needs of the person. • Avoid asking insensitive questions. • Stay calm and in control of your emotions.

MEMORY AID FOR THE PROTOCOL. STEP 1 Someone orders an Angelot. You offer to lead them to a safe place. The person accepts or refuses to go. STEP 2 If the person accepts, you accompany them to the safe place. If the person refuses, you give them the resource card. STEP 3 You explain to the person that they are safe and that they can take all the time they need. You give them a glass of water, evaluate the person's needs and ask them: • Do you have a friend in the bar? • Do you want to call someone?

Art installation by psyLush till mid-February

Neon lit ceiling star installation

The current art installation at Wiggle Room features the work of psyLush, a collective of artists passionate about crafting beautiful and secure “containers” for individuals to release and transcend on the dance floor. Renowned for their high-calibre, immersive, and psychedelic daytime events, psyLush has generously shared their magical decor with us.

The artwork titled “psyStars” is by the artist Farah J.S. It’s about symbols of light and knowledge amid the vast wonders of the cosmos. These symbols represent the light and wisdom needed for our global community of brothers and sisters during these challenging times.

psyLush is an exceptional team of healers and dedicated volunteers committed to cultivating safer spaces at raves. Safer spaces are achieved by promoting a consent culture, providing harm reduction information and supplies, and staffing a crew for vibe patrol. Dance floors are considered sacred spaces, and to truly let go, it is essential to feel safe.
